Laura Carter

Laura Carter is a Lecturer in British History at the University of Paris and a member of the research laboratory LARCA (Laboratoire de Recherche sur les Cultures Anglophones). She has published academic articles on education, gender, and social change in twentieth-century Britain and is the author of the book Histories of Everyday Life: the Making of Popular Social History in Britain, 1918-1979, which will be published by Oxford University Press in August 2021. She also works with a team of historians at the University of Cambridge on the project ‘Secondary education and social change in the United Kingdom since 1945’, which combines qualitative data from the British birth cohorts with archival research and oral histories, to re-tell the story of UK secondary education after the Second World War through the voices and experiences of ordinary pupils and parents. She would be delighted to hear from any NSHD study members interested in this research.

Laura Fenton

Laura Fenton is a Research Associate in the School of Social Sciences at the University of Manchester. Her academic research interests are in gender, youth and life history. She currently works on the Girlhood and Later Life study, a research project investigating the lives of girls growing up in Britain in the 1950s to 1970s. The study explores how experiences in youth have influenced women’s later lives. The Girlhood and Later Life project team would be very happy to hear from any NSHD study members who like to know more about the project.
