She has published academic articles on education, gender, and social change in twentieth-century Britain and is the author of the book Histories of Everyday Life: the Making of Popular Social History in Britain, 1918-1979, which will be published by Oxford University Press in August 2021. She also works with a team of historians at the University of Cambridge on the project ‘Secondary education and social change in the United Kingdom since 1945’, which combines qualitative data from the British birth cohorts with archival research and oral histories, to re-tell the story of UK secondary education after the Second World War through the voices and experiences of ordinary pupils and parents. She would be delighted to hear from any NSHD study members interested in this research.
